Mixing the ingredients to make an oscillating whirlpool, Lucas Laing, a Guilderland High School college-level chemistry student, left, turns the up the heat plate as a student from Lynnwood Elementary pours material into a beaker that will help make the whirlpool. Later in the demonstration, the water turned colors in front the students’ eyes.
