GUILDERLAND — Since Alice Begley retired as Guilderland’s town historian at the end of 2016, not much has been done with the Schoolcraft House. Begley was the mover and shaker behind fundraising for renovations and planning for special events, such as lectures or open houses, held there.

Lynnwood Elementary School Principal Alicia Rizzo is on medical leave, with no set date for her return.

The Guilderland school district has reduced by about 28 percent the amount of a proposed capital-construction project that was narrowly defeated in October, and plans to bring it to voters again in May.

Community Caregivers serves individuals who need help to stay independent at home and connected to their communities.

On Sunday morning, Guilderland’s top indoor track athletes looked to punch their tickets to the state competition on Staten Island this Saturday. Isabella Bruno, Jordon Kimbrough, and Nick Soldevere qualified.

Last Thursday, the Guilderland Dutchmen girls' basketball opened up in the quarterfinals in the class AA sectional playoffs at Shenendehowa High School against Colonie. The Dutch fell 59-to-53.

Their cheers were loud during Saturday’s competition at Colonie High. The Dutch had won its fourth straight Section 2 title. The champions had a score of 86.05 out of 100 points. The team is coached by Jessalynn Crusado.

Catherine A. Maikoff

ALTAMONT — Catherine A. Maikoff, who grew up in the family florist business and loved flowers all her life, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019. She was 92.

After two months of public comment, the Altamont Planning Board this week closed the hearing it had opened on Dec. 17, 2018, for a proposed cell tower on Agawam Lane and voted to allow the tower to be built.

Six cases of Legionnaires’ disease were linked to the building about seven years ago, when it was a Best Western Sovereign Hotel, but the assisted-living facility that has since converted the hotel undertook an “extensive renovation that replaced every single fixture in the building, faucets as well as the hot-water heater” and all the piping, according to Paul Belitsis, Promenade Senior Living’s chief financial officer and chief operating officer.
