Guilderland High School

The Guilderland girls’ wrestling team, a new team in Section 2, competed in the second annual Coxsackie-Athens girls wrestling tournament at Coxsackie-Athens High School where all 20 teams were composed of just female wrestlers.

On Friday night, Dec. 9, the Guilderland Dutchmen boys’ basketball team held their home opener for the winter season against Colonie Raiders. The tenacity of the Raider defense held the Dutch offense at bay all game long. Dutch fell 50-22.

The Berne-Knox-Westerlo-Middleburgh and Guilderland Dutchmen took part in the seven duel matches against the 10 different teams in the Columbia Duels held at Columbia High School in Rensselaer on the weekend of Dec. 2.

On Tuesday, Nov. 29, the Guilderland Dutchmen kicked off the season with a trip to Del Lanes to take on the Bethlehem Eagles. The Dutch fell, 18 to 14, with 3424 to 3444 in total pins.

On a cold and windy Saturday, Nov. 12, at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School, select members of the Guilderland girls’ and Voorheesville boys’ cross-country teams competed while the whole Voorheesville girls’ team took part in the NYSPHSAA meet.

This past weekend, Thursday Nov. 3 to Nov. 5, the Guilderville and Helderberg Valley girls swim teams took to the pool in hopes to qualify for Nov. 17-18 NYSPHSAA championships at Webster High School, just outside Rochester. Helderberg Valley’s Maura O’Donnell will compete in two events.

On Saturday morning, Nov. 5, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, and Voorheesville cross-country teams competed against other Section 2 teams to battle for spots in States this coming Saturday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.

On Friday, Oct. 27, the fourth-seeded Guilderland boys’ soccer team went to battle against the top-seeded in Section 2, Class AA in Saratoga. Guilderland held them close at half but then Saratoga took control to win 4 to 0.

The sixth-seeded Guilderland girls’ volleyball team kicked off their Section 2, Class AA quarterfinal matchup against the third-seeded Saratoga Blue Streaks at Saratoga High School last week. The Dutch team fell in four sets; 11-25, 25-18, 22-25, 17-25.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Guilderland field hockey team, the second seed, took on the third seed Bethlehem at home, where Guilderland hasn’t played in four years. It was a section 2, Class A semifinal match.
