Photos: Guilderville Win Five Sectional Championships, Send Five To States

Guilderland-Voorheesville boys’ swimming team competed in this past weekend's Section 2 Championships, Feb. 15 to 17, at Shenendehowa. The team took home five sectional championships and will send three individuals and two relay teams to states.

Quick twist: Guilderville’s Kiernan Wendling spins in the air after jumping from the diving board during his third dive. Wendling finished in 10th with 282.50 points.

Dominating the water: Guilderville’s Bao Nguyen swims the backstroke portion in the 200-yard medley relay on Friday. The relay team finished first overall in preliminary and then won on Saturday with a time of 1:37.40 and qualified for states.

Water everywhere: Guilderville’s Hayden Heckler competes in the first heat in the 200-yard freestyle. Heckler finished 24th overall with a time of 2:11.68.

Long strides: Guilderville’s Caleb Doney comes up from under the water to swim the backstroke portion in the 200-yard individual medley. Doney finished 21st overall with a time of 2:33.35.

Powerful leap: Guilderville’s Brodie Steele pushes off from the starting block in the 50-yard freestyle. Steele finished 12th overall on Saturday with a time of 23.73 seconds.

Trifecta: Guilderville’s Eric Ryan swats the water away in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday. Ryan was the top seed in the finals on Saturday and won with a time of 51.17 seconds, qualifying for States. He then won the 100-yard breaststroke, also qualifying for States.

Encased in water: Guilderville’s Brodie Steele takes in a breath of air as he competes in the 100-yard freestyle. Steele swam 52.46 seconds on Friday then on Saturday finished 14th overall with a time of 53.33 seconds.

Going fast: Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic takes a breath as he swims fast in the 100-yard freestyle. Brkanovic finished first on Friday with a time of 48.16 then won on Saturday with a time of 47.53, qualifying for states and also qualified for states in the 50-yard freestyle.
