The magical run for the Voorheesville girls’ basketball team came to an end Saturday in a heart-pounding game.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds boys’ volleyball team has been clicking on all cylinders since last year, 20-0. This year’s team was undefeated as well and riding a 38-match winning streak coming into the Class C/D Regional Finals at Chittenango High School on Saturday.

After three upset victories in a row, the Voorheesville girls’ basketball team won its sectional championship on Saturday. Seeded sixth in Class B, the Voorheesville Blackbirds beat the top-seeded Tamarac Bengals in the championship game, 51 to 46, at Hudson Valley Community College.

Wrestlers from the combined Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Voorheesville team have had a tough season. Last Thursday, only five team members could compete against Fonda-Fultonville/Johnstown as the others sat out with injuries.

The Guilderville boys’ swim team, made up of Guilderland Dutchmen and Voorheesville Blackbirds, hit the water against Albany High at Albany on Monday afternoon. Guilderville led from the opening with a convincing 102-to-62 win.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds boys’ basketball team hosted a Colonial Council matchup against Schalmont at home in which the Birds had a tough time cracking the Sabres’ defense in the 64-to-51 loss.

Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo varsity bowling teams bowled at Town ’n’ Country lanes in Guilderland last Thursday afternoon.

It was homecoming weekend for the Blackbirds girls soccer team last Friday night in which the Blackbirds clawed into the Ichabod Crane.

The Guilderland-Voorheesville girls’ swim team is already making big splashes. Even before sectionals, swimmers have qualified for state competition: two relay teams, two individual swimmers, and two divers. Guilderville swam against Saratoga at home on Wednesday afternoon, winning, 92 to 72.

The Voorheesville girls’ volleyball team might have lost some key players from last year’s sectional final team but came back reloaded and is poised to return to sectional play this year as the team beat Watervliet last Thursday, easily winning three straight sets.
