The Guilderville and Duanesburg-BKW swim teams showed off their skills during last weekend's Division 1 and Division 2 sectional championship at Shenendehowa High School in efforts to win sectional titles and qualify for state competition.

On to the championship game: The girls on Voorheesville’s varsity volleyball team opened up to defend last year’s Section 2, Class C title. On Friday at home, the Blackbirds, the number-one seed, beat Canajoharie-Fort Plain, three sets to one: 25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 25-11.

The Blackbirds wanted make deep runs on the pitch and on the gridiron in sectional play. The girls’ soccer team played well deep into the Class B sectionals with a convincing 5-to-0 win last Thursday at home.

Crunch time is here for the Voorheesville Blackbirds’ cross-country and boys’ soccer teams with the regular season coming to a close before sectionals. The soccer team celebrated its seniors on Tuesday afternoon at home against Catholic Central.

The girls on the Guilderland-Voorheesville swim team, who call themselves the Geese, took to the water on Tuesday afternoon at home, in Voorheesville, for Senior Night, against Troy. The Geese dominated, winning 90 to 76.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds, defending Section 2 champions, are having a slow start to the 2018 season since several key players graduated in June and two current players have suffered injuries.

From the opening whistle, the game was physical and hard-fought between Voorheesville and the Albany Academy for Girls at Clayton A. Bouton High School last Thursday afternoon.

Getting off to a quick start in an eight-game season for Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Helderberg Valley is critical for a good position in sectionals. The season started on Friday night for the Dutch and on Saturday for Helderberg Valley and the Blackbirds.

Last Saturday, at Clayton A. Bouton High School, the second leg of the hilltown triple crown took place.

This week, varsity golfers from Guilderland and Voorheesville started the fall sports season, hoping to drive their way to sectional titles that culminate this coming spring when the winners travel to state competition.
