Voorheesville’s cross-country team hosted its annual Blackbird Invitational on Saturday morning at the Stephen P. Wallace Park on Swift Road. This year, the invitational had a record 32 teams competing in the two division races. Voorheesville and Berne-Knox-Westerlo competed in Division 2.

On Wednesday morning, the kids of the Hilltowns arrived at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo primary and secondary schools to start off the 2019-2020 school year.

Going into every season, no matter the sport, each team looks to its senior players for leadership. The Class of 2019 did not disappoint as he athletes led their teams into sectional play or even into state competition.

On Tuesday morning at the Appel Inn in Guilderland. The YMCA held a breakfast to honor the students of five school districts on their volunteerism along with a few educators as well.

Even when temperatures plummeted, the athletes from Guilderland, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and Voorheesville made sure they brought the heat to their opponents in sectional and state competition this winter sports season.

The next step for each of the athletes on the Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo indoor track teams is to compete in this Sunday’s state qualifiers for a chance to head to the state competition on March 2 on Long Island.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo basketball fans packed the gym in Berne for a thrilling ride this past weekend as the Bulldogs battled to try to win Class C titles. On Friday, the boys, seeded 15th, suffered a close loss, 54 to 52, against Rensselaer, the 18th seed.

Nine Guilderland and one Berne-Knox-Westerlo wrestlers were among the best in Section 2, hoping to win on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center so they could go on to state competition. None succeeded. Guilderland finished 22nd with 67 points and BKW didn’t score.

“Take it From the Top,” written and directed by Penny Shaw and the show’s dates are Nov. 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School Auditorium.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys are busy this season on the green and on the pitch. The soccer team beat Middleburgh, 2 to 1, in overtime at home on Friday afternoon, and the golf team golf team lost, 184 to 213, against Oppenheim-Ephratah-St.
