Photos: Voorheesville Dominate Helderberg Valley

On Saturday, April 17, the Voorheesville Blackbirds football team took on crosstown rival Helderberg Valley, made up of players from Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Duanesburg, from the opening kickoff to the final whistle at Clayton A. Bouton. The Blackbirds won 37 to 13.

Quick start: Voorheesville’s Cole Edmonds gets into open field as a Helderberg Valley defender attempts to make a tackle 20 seconds into the game on Saturday afternoon. Edmonds got into the end zone on the play. Edmonds had seven carries for 88 yards and a touchdown.

No room: Helderberg Valley’s Jeff Mulhern throws the ball away as two Blackbird defenders are at his waist in the first quarter. Mulhern did get a chance to get the ball away in the fourth to throw a touchdown to Hunter Parker and also had a rushing touchdown.

Getting away: Voorheesville’s Joe Tomlin shakes off a would be Helderberg Valley tackle in the first quarter. Tomlin had 12 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Over the shoulder: Voorheesville’s Alex Sapienza makes a catch in the second half to get the Blackbirds closer to the end zone. Sapienza had three catches for 27 yards and a touchdown to go along with his two carries for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Stingy: Three Voorheesville defensive ends wrap up Helderberg Valley’s Jeff Mulhern in the second half. The defense forced two interceptions, a fumble recovery and recovered an onside kick in the Blackbirds 37 to 13 win over Helderberg Valley on Saturday afternoon at Clayton A. Bouton High School.
