Albany County will soon roll out a mobile application that will provide education and links to resources that will increase awareness about suicide and suicide prevention.

Monday, Aug. 11, wasn’t an unusual day for me but was special for my granddaughter, Kyra Swan, and my great grandchildren, Samson and Nichole Clark. Their father and brother, Brandon Clark, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Smith, took them to the Adirondack Extreme Rope Course in Bolton Landing for the day.

This past Sunday, Aug. 10, my daughter and I had the pleasure of going to the book-signing for Images of America Altamont by Keith C. Lee. Met a lot of old friends and also some nice visits.

These local members of the New York Army National Guard have been promoted:

Sean Flynn from Delmar, serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-69th infantry is promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel;

The LaSalle Institute will hold its 21st annual Cadet Open at Albany Country Club (300 Wormer Road, Voorheesville) on Monday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is open to the public.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, The Old Men of the Mountain met at the restaurant they were supposed to be at.

The new head of school for Doane Stuart, Pamela J. Clarke, has 25 years of experience leading independent schools.

“We actually started as more of a holistic health practice 35 years ago,” said Father Peter Young this week. “We’re sort of trying to go back to our roots now.”

A tributary of necessities like clothing, medicines, and furniture is flowing to a “Veterans Miracle Center” where local religious leaders are encouraging struggling veterans and their immediate families to come at no cost.
