After two students alerted Voorheesville school administrators on Monday to a threatening message they had found written on a bathroom mirror at the middle and high school campus, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office was called and bomb-sniffing dogs were brought in.

Depending on the source, some New Scotland water customers can pay as much as $26 per 1,000 gallons of water while others pay as little as $4.50. Recently, because their own service had to be shut down, the 127 customers in the Northeast Water District have been paying close to double what they normally pay for water.

Zachary Barrantes, who is now 25, has been struggling for years with both physical and mental health problems.

Labor and management came to an agreement in Voorheesville, as the teachers’ union and school district signed a five-year agreement; teachers had been working without a contract for 18 months.

The Voorheesville boys’ volleyball team traveled to Columbia-Greene Community College on Saturday to compete in the Holiday Tournament hosted by Ichabod Crane. The Blackbirds finished fifth out of eight teams, after going 5-5.

The Hilton barn

“I’ve always said, ‘If you build it, they will come,’” said New Scotland Councilman William Hennessy after the town received a $411,000 state grant to restore the historic Hilton Barn and add amenities to the park that surrounds it.

At her last meeting, Councilwoman Patricia Snyder voted against supporting the county’s clean-air bill because of what she termed a “vacuum” of information.
