VOORHEESVILLE — Jason Windsor is making his first run for school board, because, he said, “I feel my skills and background would be extremely helpful at this point.”



NEW SCOTLAND –– After two years and two failed attempts, the town board is preparing to vote again on a local law limiting the size of large-scale commercial development in the area of routes 85 and 85A, following a public hearing on the issue scheduled for May.

VOORHEESVILLE — Diana Straut is making her first run for school board because, she said, she has “seen the district from several angles as a parent,” and she wants to bring her experiences as a teacher and a school consultant to the table.

VOORHEESVILLE — Timothy Blow is finishing his fifth year on the school board, and has decided to run for re-election this year.

VOORHEESVILLE — Incumbent Timothy Blow will be challenged by two newcomers — Diana Straut and Jason Windsor — in a three-way race for two seats on the Voorheesville School Board.

Lisa Henkel, who served one term, is not seeking re-election.



NEW SCOTLAND –– The town board is considering appointing a new highway superintendent after Darrell Duncan accepted a job as head of Public Works in early March.

Darrell Duncan served the New Scotland Town Highway Department for the last 18 years.



VOORHEESVILLE –– A Voorheesville Elementary School teacher arrested in December for biting one of his fifth-grade students is having his case dismissed after the alleged victims’ parents told officials they wanted the charges dropped, reported his attorney, James Knox.



VOORHEESVILLE Village residents will see a 3-cent tax increase, if the village board adopts its proposed $1.99 million budget next week.

The tax rate will be $1.18 per $1,000 of assessed value, up from $1.15 per $1,000 this year.



VOORHEESVILLE — St. Matthew's Catholic Church will begin its 50th anniversary celebration next weekend, kicking off a year of activities marking its presence in the village.



VOORHEESVILLE — The Voorheesville Public Library’s director says the board is struggling to balance a continuation services while being forced to cut costs.
