NEW SCOTLAND — Barbara “Joan” Uhrik, a community involved public servant with a love of horses and the racetrack, died peacefully at her home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, with her daughter by her side. She was 82.

Mrs. Uhrik was born on Sept. 22, 1931, the daughter of Cecil and Olivia Buckler.

NEW SCOTLAND — On Sunday, Nov. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m., the New Scotland Historical Association will be hosting the program, “Coping with Life’s Necessaries: The Down and Dirty Story of Life Without Plumbing,” at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center in New Salem.

Lance Moore, whose family has been involved with theater for many generations, is part of a real-life drama as he rescued a historic inn in Freehold to open a restaurant, and now awaits regular local patrons.

NEW SCOTLAND — On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the Clarksville Historical Society presents “Civil War Camp Music” with Uncle Billy’s Balladeers.

The interactive theater performance, featuring songs and poems of the Civil War, starts at 7 p.m. at the Clarksville Community Church on Delaware Turnpike in Clarksville.

A 44-year-old East Greenbush man fell to his death while illegally scaling the rock face at the John Boyd Thacher State Park on Sept. 13.
