VOORHEESVILLE — John M. Bagyi has been named, for the 10th year in a row, to the 2018 Upstate New York Super Lawyers list in the field of Employment and Labor.

A 1989 graduate of Guilderland High School, Bagyi lives in Voorheesville with his wife, Dania, and their daughters, Kennedy and McKenna.

Getting off to a quick start in an eight-game season for Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Helderberg Valley is critical for a good position in sectionals. The season started on Friday night for the Dutch and on Saturday for Helderberg Valley and the Blackbirds.

With each passing year, fewer and fewer all-volunteer ambulance squads remain in the area, replaced with full-time paid employees.

A new club at Voorheesville Elementary School has joined the media landscape. Blackbirds on the Wing, a podcast club, recently posted its first episode titled, “The Nature of Fads.”

Albany County received millions in government funds to upgrade its communication system. Now volunteer fire departments worry how they’ll be able to pay for the required new radios.

Last Saturday, at Clayton A. Bouton High School, the second leg of the hilltown triple crown took place.

New state-set equalization rates for Guilderland residents in the Voorheesville school district mean district residents in New Scotland and Berne will pay more.

Voorheesville’s school board continues to debate the possibility of adding a school resource officer for the new school year.

An issue with support beams in the gym of the former Clarksville Elementary School — now used by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office — has slowed the sale of the building, but the sheriff’s office still expects the sale to go through.
