KNOX — Cecelia Shafer gave cards and conversation — for any occasion and anyone dear — and didn’t expect anything in return.

Her blue eyes and smile greeted customers of The Altamont Supermarket, acquaintances at the Knox Volunteer Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary, or members of St. Lucy’s Church in Altamont.

On Monday, March 3, baby Zoey arrived at 7:30 a.m. for our day together. She loves my dogs. They are four year-old, Ginger and 15-month-old Reba. She could watch them all day. If I let them out to romp in the snow and sit by the window with Her, she is in her glory and could sit and watch for hours.

On Tuesday, March 4, the Old Men of the Mountain met at the Blue Star Restaurant in Schoharie, and it was another cold morning. This scribe generally does not mind winter, but enough already.

Once again, the Hilltowns Community Resource Center will be able to benefit from “The Annual $1 Million Giveaway to fight Hunger.” This is the 17th year Alan Feinstein will divide $1 million among not-for-profit hunger-fighting agencies.

Monday, Feb.24, was very cold, barely made it to 17-degrees. It was very warm in my house. It was my Zoey day. She is in the midst of cutting teeth and chewing on everything, especially toys. She loves to eat. She pulls herself up and grabs everything with those little hands, especially glasses.

The cause of an accessory building fire was not officially determined on Wednesday. Knox Fire Chief Bill Vinson said the building appeared to be used for storage and mechanical work and stood about 50 feet away from the nearest house.

EAST BERNE — Patrick Stempel was straight with his words, his care, and his chainsaw.

KNOX — The towing business cited in violation of the town’s zoning law in January was included in a business district recommended by a 4-to-2 vote of the Knox Planning Board on Feb. 27.

"How delicate and strong something can be at the same time," said Dawn O'Neal, speaking of the birds she studies, but perhaps inadvertently referencing herself. She recently became the Huyck Preserve's newest executive director.

A survey on the 2014-15 budget should be submitted by March 5 for the budget advisory committee to review. It will remain open online until March 10, when school board members meet next to discuss the budget.
