Thompson’s Lake Campground near East Berne — part of Thacher State Park — held its annual “trick-or-treating in August” event.

According to the State Education Department, a majority of BKW students in grade 3-8 who took the spring 2016 English Language Arts test  scored below proficiency levels.

Nearly 80 firefighters from 11 companies met recently at the East Berne Fire and Rescue Company’s firehouse to study Air Medical Utilization and Landing Zone Safety.

WESTERLO — An accomplished and much respected scholar of international repute and a long-time professor of English at Siena College, Margaret Patterson Hannay was an active practitioner of her Christian faith. She died on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, after a four-year struggle with brain cancer. She was 71.
