BETHLEHEM — The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce will honor three individuals and two organizations at its annual awards celebration on Oct. 26 at the Colonie Country Club:
— Lifetime Achievement awardees: Margaret Barkman, long-time owner of Barkman Farms, and Gregory Turner, owner Burt Anthony Associates;

BETHLEHEM — A 19-year-old Albany man, Da-Ivion N. Hale, was charged on Monday with felonies for having a loaded gun after he fled from police trying to make a traffic stop, according to a release from Bethlehem Police.

In two Article 7 petitions filed on July 17 with Albany County Supreme Court, the owner of 125 Vista Boulevard, a parcel that lies in two towns in Vista Technology Park, requested that its Bethlehem assessment be lowered from $37.5 million to $20.25 million and its New Scotland assessment be reduced from $985,500 to $444,000. 

ALBANY COUNTY — A temporary bridge for the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail over Route 85 in Slingerlands is expected to be in place by the end of September, according to George Penn, Albany County’s director of operations.

The bridge had buckled on July 12, just weeks after being put in place.

“It’s fascinating to see how cycling has evolved over the years,” said Matt Devlin, owner of Mad Dog Bikes.

Construction stopped that morning and on Tuesday, July 18, the Albany County Executive’s Office said in a statement that plans to shore up the bridge are being reviewed and work will likely begin as early as July 19. “The investigation into the cause of last week’s incident continues,” it said.

GLENMONT — A Saturday morning fire at 201 River Road was contained to one bedroom, according to a release from the Bethlehem Police Department.

A resident was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and two cats died in the fire.

Five adults were displaced by the fire.

ALBANY COUNTY — The long-awaited rail-trail bridge was put into place in late June but buckled on July 12.

BETHLEHEM — The state’s Department of Transportation is advising motorists to watch for alternating flows of traffic controlled by flaggers on State Route 32 between Creble Road and the intersection of Elm Avenue and on the Delmar Bypass in Bethlehem.
