BPD: Thieves altered checks stolen from mailboxes

BETHLEHEM — Two men were each charged with four felonies for altering information on checks to steal money, according to a release from the Bethlehem Police.

Jahkeem P. Davis-Latulippe, 27, of Albany, and Jaden T. Patterson, 22, of Watervliet, were arrested on Aug. 9 by Bethlehem Police, each charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of forgery devices, third-degree grand larceny, and first-degree scheme to defraud — all felonies — and with fifth-degree conspiracy a misdemeanor.

“It is alleged that both Davis-Latulippe and Patterson would steal mail from mailboxes looking for handwritten checks that were being mailed,” the release says. “The two would alter the information on the checks and then cash the checks at a financial institution, stealing money from the victim’s bank account.”

Both men were arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court by Justice Andrew Kirby. Patterson was released under the supervision of probation and Davis-Latulippe was held on $5,000 cash bail / $15,000 bond.

A return date was set for Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Bethlehem Town Court.
