Bethlehem chamber celebrates five honorees

Bethlehem Neighbors, a not-for-profit that helps elderly residents stay in their homes, host events like this concert. Gail Myers, president of the Bethlehem Neighbors, will be honored by the chamber of commerce on Oct 24.

BETHLEHEM — Two people, a landscaping business, a newspaper, and a not-for-profit group that offers support to women with breast cancer will be honored by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce at its 38th Annual Awards celebration, known as the “Celebration of Success.”

The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Albany Country Club and will be emceed by Chris Onorato of News Channel 13.

 The 2024 “Celebration of Success” honorees are:

— Outstanding Member: SevenZocks Property Maintenance and Landscaping, locally owned since 2005, sponsors the annual Fourth of July fireworks at the Bethlehem town park as well as a variety of additional efforts that benefit the area;

— Enduring Excellence: Spotlight News, founded in 1955 by Mrs. Charles E. Walsh,Jr. as a four-page penny saver in Delmar, is now run by John McIntyre and his staff who have supported the Bethlehem Chamber and the wider community for decades;

— Heart Of the Community: Gail Myers, president of the Bethlehem Neighbors, is a long-time Bethlehem resident and a founding member of the association, which partners with existing community groups to help older residents age safely and engage in meaningful activities while remaining in their homes. Myers works full-time as deputy director of the New York Statewide Senior Action Council;

— Distinguished Non-Profit: To Life! was founded in 1988 by Mara Ginsberg and is currently led by Eileen Bird. Headquartered in Delmar, it welcomes women with breast cancer, providing information, enlisting support, and offering ancillary services such as wig and prostheses fittings and makeup. To Life! aggressively reaches out to the community with breast self-examination training; and

— Rising Star: Connor O’Malley, founder of Old Delmar Auto Detail, entering his senior year at Bethlehem Central High School, is an inspiration to local youth “who want to be their own boss one day.” He has donated $2,500 to the American Cancer Society.

Tickets may be purchased online at the chamber’s website, www.BethlehemChamber.com. Tickets cost $85 per member, $90 for non-members, $160 per couple with at least one  member, $175 for non-member couples; a table seating eight costs members is $650 for members and $700 for non-members.
