Calling all bakers!

The Westerlo Library’s annual Book and Bake Sale will be held Saturday, May 12 — the day before Mother’s Day — from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library. Donations of baked goods are welcomed. A sign-up sheet is at the circulation desk.

Everyone else — mark your calendars! This is your chance to treat Mom to something sweet on her special day. There will also be a selection of books, music, and videos for sale, along with our new lightweight book bags.

We couldn’t do it without the support of our community. Thanks to our friends and patrons who support our book and bake sales and allow us to “keep the change” when paying for fines or copies.  Every penny makes a difference!

Read to Lefty

Lefty will be back next Friday, April 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Contact the library to register your child for a 15-minute reading session, or just drop in to “check it out!”  (Librarians love saying, “Check it out.”)

Lefty is a registered therapy dog. Our thanks to Eric Markson for volunteering his time and sharing Lefty with us.

Lego Club

Drop in on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to play and create with Lego. We supply the blocks; you bring the imagination. Miss Lee is also available for homework help.

Story time

Join Miss Lee Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon for stories, songs, and movement activities designed for infants to children up to 5 years old.

In addition to developing pre-reading skills, singing, moving to music, and playing instruments all help foster a sense of rhythm and timing that are essential elements in developing the part of a child’s brain that shapes math skills.

Story times are also a great opportunity to meet other parents of small children in Westerlo.

Technology Walk-In Wednesdays

Do you have a new smartphone or tablet, but don’t know how to download digital materials? Need to brush up on your computer skills — or obtain basic skills?

See Amy on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free, personalized, one-on-one instruction.

The Westerlo Library is proud to announce a $500 grant from the Stewart’s Holiday Match Program. This grant will be used to purchase new furniture for our recently refurbished children’s play area. A new table and chairs, and a bench with storage for toys, puzzles, and board books will keep the nook organized but inviting.

It is through the support of individuals and local charitable organizations, like Stewart’s Foundation and its very generous customers, that we are able to strengthen our existing programs, and develop new and innovative library projects to serve our patrons and the community at large.

Over the past 30 years, Stewart’s Foundation and its Holiday Match customers have awarded over $26 million to thousands of community organizations that serve children’s recreation and education. Thank you, Stewart’s!
