People’s Action is pushing for weekly Tuesday protests across the country fighting Donald Trump’s initiatives.

NEW SCOTLAND — John M. Hendrickson, 42, of Ravena, drove to the police barracks in New Scotland late in the evening on Sunday, Jan. 29, to pick up a suspect who was being released, according to a press notice from the State Police.

An Albany woman was charged Friday with endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree assault for an incident at Crossgates Mall.

Schools need to work with local government to blunt poverty’s impact.

The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation has reclassified a landfill at the defunct Army depot in Guilderland Center. The site had been classified as a “significant threat to public health or environment” and now is classified as “properly closed," requiring “continued management.”

ALBANY COUNTY — The man that police say went on a county-wide spree in November, stealing laptops, phones, and GPS devices from cars pleaded guilty on Tuesday to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.

RENSSELAERVILLE —  The Carey Institute for Global Good has announced its incoming class of 20 fellows to the Logan Nonfiction Program, set to arrive in Rensselaerville on Feb. 2.

Guilderland native Jack T. Davis toured last year with the well-known male revue company, Magic Mike Tour, and may start to do so again this spring. He is also a model, a fitness and bodybuilding competitor, and a personal trainer.

The school’s principal said the school had investigated and responded “appropriately,” and that “People have confrontations, but they’re not all bullying.”

In spite of its tax cap and a sparse increase in state aid, the Voorheesville School District will likely not see cuts in its upcoming budget. A meeting on Jan. 30 will discuss the preliminary budget, which includes increases to staff expenses and a high-priced capital project.

Teachers in Guilderland are using new apps, as well as Facebook and Twitter, to let parents see, in real time, what students are learning.

A commission charged with mapping Voorheesville’s future has surveyed business owners and will hold a session to hear their ideas on Feb. 16. Another session is scheduled for Jan. 26 to hear from cultural groups.

Albany Pine Bush Preserve prescribed burns

An initiative by the Department of Environmental Conservation to preserve a habitat of young forests has led to action plans for two protected areas in Albany County: the Louise E. Keir Wildlife Management Area in Coeymans, and the Margaret Burke Wildlife Management Area in Knox. 

A bill sponsored by Senator George Amedore and Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy to further update the New York State Alcoholic Beverage Control Law would allow distilleries to sell beer, wine, and cider by the glass, allowing for further cross-promotion of local craft beverages.
