GUILDERLAND — Sarah Forman of Altamont, a sophomore at Siena College, has been named MAAC Female Runner of the Week. This is Forman’s first MAAC weekly honor.

These local athletes are playing on college or university teams:

— Madison Ehring of Bethlehem, who is studying biomedical sciences, is a member of the Rochester Institute of Technology women’s soccer team;

Blessing of the Animals will be held at St. John’’s Lutheran Church 140 Maple Avenue in Altamont, on Sunday, Oct. 2.

GUILDERLAND — Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians inspected 111 car seats at Crossgates Mall on Sept. 24 as part of the 32nd Annual Traffic Safety Awareness Weekend. Only six were installed correctly.

Eight car seats were replaced due to age, recall, damage, or were inappropriate for the child.

GUILDERLAND — Tractor Supply Company, in partnership with National 4-H Council, is holding a Fall Paper Clover Campaign from Oct. 5 to 16, when shoppers may purchase a paper clover for $1 or more at checkout; the money will be awarded as scholarships 4-H members attending camps and leadership conferences across the country.

On Monday afternoon, NYS Senator George Amedore and AT&T Wireless partnered to start the campaign "It can (All) wait" at Crossgates Mall in Guilderland.

Three new local businesses — a sandwich shop, a dog groomer, and a men’s grooming salon — have opened in Guilderland. They are all located in Hometown Dental Plaza, formerly known as Park Place Plaza, near Carman Road.

A 25,000-square-foot children’s play emporium has opened on the third floor of Crossgates Mall.

“It was barely a bump,” said Marie Wiles, Superintendent of Guilderland schools, of a slight collision in stop-and-go traffic Tuesday morning.

The Cornell Small Farms Program is offering partial scholarships for military veterans to take online courses as part of the “Farm Ops” initiative. Several of the courses offered during the year are taught by local Cornell Cooperative Extension educators.

NEW SCOTLAND — John M. Bagyi, a lawyer in the Albany office for Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC, has been recognized in the 2016 Upstate New York Super Lawyers list in the field of Employment and Labor. Bagyi counsels and represents employers on labor and employment issues.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at 140 Maple Avenue in Altamont returns to the regular worship schedule of 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Sunday school resumes at 9:45 a.m.

Pastor Greg will be speaking at the annual 9/11 observance at the Altamont Fire Station beginning at 8:46 a.m. Don Bunk will be speaking at both services.

Everyone who joins the Arbor Day Foundation in September will receive 10 free trees as part of the Foundation’s Trees for America program.
