Safety-seat check shows most installed incorrectly

GUILDERLAND — Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians inspected 111 car seats at Crossgates Mall on Sept. 24 as part of the 32nd Annual Traffic Safety Awareness Weekend. Only six were installed correctly.

Eight car seats were replaced due to age, recall, damage, or were inappropriate for the child.

“Since 1998, we have checked 2,198 seats and only 96 were initially installed correctly,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy in a release from his office.  “By providing these free safety seat checkups with qualified technicians, there is no doubt we are potentially saving lives in the event of an accident.”
