Cornell Small Farms Program offers scholarships for veterans

The Cornell Small Farms Program is offering partial scholarships for military veterans to take online courses as part of the “Farm Ops” initiative. Several of the courses offered during the year are taught by local Cornell Cooperative Extension educators.

The courses, normally $250 each, will be offered to veterans for $125 each. In order to be eligible, a person must be active or retired military, a resident of New York State, and have plans to begin selling farm products (filing a Schedule F) in 2016 or 2017.

To view the course offerings and schedules go to: http://www.nebeginningfarmers.org/online-courses/. If you are eligible and would like to apply for a scholarship, complete this short form https://cornell.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3vKdCGInVW1uLWd.

Registration is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will be asked to complete a targeted survey at the end of the course as well as six months from completion, to determine the effect on their operation.

Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Capital Area Agriculture and Horticulture Program also has a variety of local classes and events available to people interested in agriculture. For more information, go online to https://blogs.cornell.edu/capitalareaagandhortprogram/main/ or call (518) 765-3518.
