A new book looks back on Guilderland establishments that have disappeared from the landscape.

GUILDERLAND — Just as school was starting, at 7:50 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 18, Guilderland Police called Westmere Elementary School. “The police had received a 9-1-1 call and quickly determined it was not a credible report,” said Superintendent Marie Wiles.

January feels like a long month. And, whether or not we have broken official cold records this month in Albany County, it sure feels like we have!

A Malta man who was driving drugged in Guilderland was sentenced on Jan. 8 to one to three years in state prison by Judge Gerald W. Connolly in Albany County Drug Court.

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said in a release that events unfolded this way:

The owner of Christmas Land on Furbeck Road in Altamont got a special-use permit last week, after the month-long event had already occurred. Some neighbors are concerned about potential additional plans for the site.

The Storm hockey team — made up of players from five different schools: Guilderland, Voorheesville, Scotia-Glenville, Schalmont, and Mohonasen — played Friday night against Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa in Schenectady. The arena felt hot despite the brutal cold outdoors as the Storm fell, 5 to 3.

The Guilderland Dutchmen wrestlers traveled to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School Saturday to compete in the Jamie Mormile Tournament in Ravena. The Dutch wrestled against 14 other schools and finished in second place with 141 points, only 19.50 points behind winner Watervliet-Heatly.

The scheme netted an estimated $90,000.

A man called 9-1-1 to say his living room was on fire and he was going to get a bucket to put it out. When firefighters got there less than 10 minutes later, the home was 80 percent involved.
