Guilderland, with a seasoned team, and Voorheesville, with a new indoor track team, both competed in the seven school Tri-Valley meet at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy on Sunday afternoon. The Blackbirds’ team has one junior and all the other athletes are younger.

The Guilderland-Voorheesville boys’ swimming team traveled to the Albany Academies in Albany last Thursday. The Guilderville swim team swam hard and fast but fell, 101 to 80. The team is now two and two on the season, and one swimmer has qualified for state competition in March.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds faced off against the Cohoes Tigers in an early Colonial Council matchup on Friday evening on the Cohoes High School court. The Birds’ tenacious defense kept the Tigers off kilter all game long, leading to the Blackbirds’ 51-to-35 victory.

Voorheesville's Katy Bablin was selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association to participate in a convention held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who is an unsigned student athlete, to show off her talent on the volleyball court.

Defending Section 2 champions, the Voorheesville girls look to keep their title this basketball season. For the third time in three years, the Birds are under new leadership — coached by Tom Maxwell.

Carrying high their hopes of playing deep into November for state championships, athletes from Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo showed their opponents that they mean business on the court, in the pool, on the gridiron, and on the course.

The Blackbirds were one match away from a return trip to the state’s Final Four pool play in Glens Falls this weekend — and they clinched it, becoming regional champs for the second year in a row.

The Guilderville swim team — made up of girls from Guilderland and Voorheesville — competed last weekend at the state competition at Ithaca College in Ithaca.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds competed in the pool-play portion of the girls’ volleyball state tournament on Saturday afternoon in Glens Falls. The Birds battled hard and played their best against the three teams, finishing with a record of 3-4.
