ALTAMONT — Freda R. Hartman, the oldest active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019. She was 96.

She was born to the late William and Elizabeth (née Loechel) Reineck in Albany on Jan. 21, 1923.

ALTAMONT — Irena Altmanova Frinta was ahead of her time in combining her career as an artist with her role as a supportive and loving wife and mother, said her daughter, Dagmar.

ALBANY COUNTY — Nicholas Christopher of Altamont was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun when he held up a gas station in June, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

On Tuesday, Christopher, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted robbery, a felony.

Citing the need for further review, the Altamont Board of Trustees made no decision on the rezone of 107-109 Helderberg Ave.

The Altamont Board of Trustees asked the court that the case brought against it by a group of residents be dismissed.

At its September meeting, the Altamont Board of Trustees has a chance to finally lay to rest a problem that has roiled the village, its residents, and Stewart’s Shops for much of 2019. 

As thunder storms swept through Altamont Sunday night, lightning struck a house, setting it on fire.

The former home of the Altamont branch of KeyBank, at 105 Park St., could soon be off the market. 

Jeffrey Moller, Altamont’s Superintendent of Public Works, said the need to use chemicals to kill weeds along parts of Main Street and Maple Avenue was necessary because milder options had failed.
