ALTAMONT — Irena Altmanova Frinta was ahead of her time in combining her career as an artist with her role as a supportive and loving wife and mother, said her daughter, Dagmar.

ALBANY COUNTY — Nicholas Christopher of Altamont was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun when he held up a gas station in June, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

On Tuesday, Christopher, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted robbery, a felony.

Citing the need for further review, the Altamont Board of Trustees made no decision on the rezone of 107-109 Helderberg Ave.

The Altamont Board of Trustees asked the court that the case brought against it by a group of residents be dismissed.

Laura Shore

Laura Shore is like the Georgia O'Keeffe of vegetables. Part of the profits from her paintings goes to support open-space preservation. Shore, biographer of the late Ev Rau, a farming icon in Altamont, has now plunged into researching Lucie Cassidy — responsible for Altamont’s name as well as for the founding of St.

At its September meeting, the Altamont Board of Trustees has a chance to finally lay to rest a problem that has roiled the village, its residents, and Stewart’s Shops for much of 2019.

The Altamont reservoir — the lower part in the foreground is filled with water; the upper part in the background, appears nearly dry on July 22 — hasn’t been used in nearly 12 years. For the past three to four years, the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation has recommended that the village keep the reservoir levels low to take some of the pressure off the dams in case of a big storm.
