Altamont man pleads guilty to violent felony

Nicholas Christopher

ALBANY COUNTY — Nicholas Christopher of Altamont was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun when he held up a gas station in June, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

On Tuesday, Christopher, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted robbery, a felony.

He appeared before Judge William A. Carter in Albany County Court. He’ll be sentenced on Jan. 3, 2019, and faces seven years in state prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision, the release said.

At 1:15 p.m. on Friday, June 7, Christopher entered the Lukoil at 821 New Scotland Ave. in Albany, armed with a shotgun, and demanded cash from the clerk at the counter who complied, the district attorney’s office said; he then fled with the cash. No one was hurt.

Christopher went to a nearby residence, where he stashed the $1,100 he had robbed from the gas station, a pair of gloves, and the shotgun — police recovered all items, said Cecilia Walsh, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

It was only after he returned to the area around the gas station a few hours later that he was arrested by officers from the city of Albany Police Department, who had been in the area investigating his crime, Walsh said.

Christopher’s lawyer, Matthew Swedick, could not be reached for comment.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato of the Major Offense Bureau is prosecuting this case.
