The school board was presented with the first draft of next year’s budget during its recent meeting. 

In a May 2021 letter to the New Scotland Water Committee, the Newells discuss having the water line “conveyed to the Town.”

The Jan. 30 order from Chief Judge Brenda K. Sannes finalized a Dec. 3 preliminary injunction that prevented the village from interfering in construction of the facility.

Town Attorney Michael Naughton noted that the agreement, which dated back to 1982, brought Feura Bush in line with the rate structures  of other local water districts, like Heldervale.

The money will be used for the first phases of renovation, including asbestos abatement, removing non-original building additions, and stabilizing the structure, which was determined to have “good bones.”

In a Dec. 30 letter to Judge Paul Evangelista, the Voorheesville attorney in the case wrote, “As neither an answer nor motion for summary judgment has been filed in response to” Voorheesville’s counterclaims against Norfolk Southern or its third-party suit against JC Pops, the village “is entitled to voluntarily dismiss its claims .…”

Much was achieved over the course of the past year in the town of New Scotland and village of Voorheeville.

Bob Flynn has written a book — titled “Tork’s Hill & Mead’s Pond” — about two Voorheesville men who used their private property to create what he terms “winter wonderlands” where he and his friends could gather. Flynn’s book captures an earlier time when kids played outside — even in cold winters — and when there was a sense of community, a sense of place, and a sense of trust.

The four-quadrant gate systems, in addition to preventing cars from attempting to maneuver around the crossing stop arms — a feat attempted three times in the past two years — mean train engineers will no longer have to  blow their whistles as they travel over the county-owned roads.
