GUILDERLAND — The town has been recognized as a 2025 Tree City USA in honor of its “commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit its community,” according to an April 14 announcement from the Arbor Day Foundation.

Arbor Day, which is celebrated on the fourth Friday of April, falls on the 24th this year.

Those who oppose the gridlocked measures — one of several issues holding up the state budget — include consumer advocates and trial lawyers who maintain the proposals would make it harder for injured parties to sue, would increase insurance-companies’ profits, and that there is no guarantee insurance costs will be lowered.

To qualify for workforce housing, rent plus required tenant-paid utilities would not exceed $1,706 per month.

In March 2023, according to a recently filed lawsuit, Guilderland police officers physically forced a biracial teenager and two other Black minors onto a bus at Crossgates Mall, ordered the driver to lock the doors, and directed the bus to leave.

The owner of the chain restaurant located across the street from Stuyvesant Plaza, filed suit against the town in March of last year for construction costs and revenue lost due to flooding in the area.

Altamont Fire Department Chief Paul Miller said both residents of 100 Severson Ave. had been transported for medical care but he was unsure about the extent of their injuries.

Police found evidence at the searched home linked to this burglary as well as another burglary in a separate jurisdiction. The county sheriff’s office had dealt with a similar burglary in Westerlo, Scarano said.

During its March 18 meeting, the Guilderland Zoning Board of Appeals was asked to weigh in on a request from Nexamp Solar about its proposed five-megawatt battery energy storage system for the Northeastern Industrial Park.

Caitlin Ferrante, who chairs the conservation council, told the town board that the council, which will meet twice a year as the task force, “has the knowledge and has the time and the ability to make sure that what we’re trying to plan for in the town is actually good.”

A public unveiling of the bronze statue is slated for September but, in the meantime, a maquette, or model, of the statue will be placed in various spots around the village as Historic Altamont, which commissioned the statue, is hosting a naming contest for the woman.
