With counties across New York State working to submit a plan to save money through shared municipal services by Aug. 1, some town governments have been trying to keep up —  wary of consolidation, anxious to save taxpayers money, or simply reeling from the fast pace.

Local students play sports at SUNY Oneonta

Two local students played on SUNY Oneonta sports teams this year:

— Emma Cremo of Delmar was a member of the women’s lacrosse team.

A group of area veterans have a new parade float, thanks to Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students, faculty and staff.

Member of the united States Submarine Veterans Albany-Saratoga Chapter took possession of their new submarine float recently during a presentation at the Albany CTE campus.

 

ALBANY COUNTY — As the two landfills in the county begin to fill up, municipalities are starting to think — fast — about the future. One resolution passed unanimously in the legislature suggests that the issue should be handled on a regional, or at least county-wide, level.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County will be offering a 4-H shooting sports program at its building in Voorheesville in July for children aged 11 to 18, where they can learn about archery or air rifle shooting.

Bikes for the public to rent in four Capital District cities, starting this summer, are part of a trend nationally and regionally. 

Altamont Enterprise editor Melissa Hale-Spencer has won two first-place awards in this year’s National Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest.

A computer virus that locks down data and demands ransom payment infected a Rensselaer County library.

The virus hit the Stephentown Memorial Library, which is part of the Upper Hudson Library System. That system also includes libraries in Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Altamont.
