Lynching is a current concern because if atrocities are buried, they fester. We need to acknowledge the past so that we don’t repeat it.

ALTAMONT — The Altamont Fair will be celebrating 125 years since it was founded to feature livestock competitions and horse races.

“I’ll make guys think they are pregnant and can’t get out of a chair,” says Michael DeSchalit, the hypnotist and magician who will perform next week at the Altamont Fair.

NEW SCOTLAND — The State Employees’ Federal Credit Union is working with Wildwood Programs to grow more produce at Wildwood Farm for emergency food programs. With a grant from SEFCU, Wildwood will give 3,000 pounds of produce — an increase over the former 2,000 pounds — each year to hungry families in the Capital Region

The Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District has begun a countywide erosion-control program using its new hydroseeder. In 2016, conservation district staff completed several successful projects in partnership with municipal highway departments.

A first-in-the-nation program to provide no-cost or lower-cost naloxone at pharmacies across New York began on Aug. 9, according to a release from the governor’s office.

Prisoners are less likely to commit crimes once they are released if they’ve stayed connected to their families and communities.
