A new pizza restaurant, run by the owners of Paul's Pizza in West Coxsackie and Pomodoro's in Catskill, may open next to the Stewart's Shop in Feura Bush.

NEW SCOTLAND — Arthur N. Applebee, a husband, father, and grandfather, was a leading scholar of literacy and language learning and earned international renown for his seminal work on how students become literate thinkers. He died on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, in New York. He was 69.

The middle-school faculty re-examined and revised its approach to math and the Common Core after state assessment scores years ago came in low, according to Voorheesville Curriculum Director Karen Conroy. This year, about a third of students in most grades tested received scores at the highest level.

At 82, the longest-serving pizzamaker in the area is retiring.

Superintendent Brian Hunt said that 61 percent of the project's funding may be reimbursed; the final cost to the district is estimated at $28,000.
