Trying to keep the Sabres in check, Talia Crisafulli, below, and Julia Voss, above, took on Schalmont’s Alexis Horwedel and Kennedy Cronk throughout the game but Shalmont got two goals in each half and stifled Voorheesville’s attack. Julia Voss scored the lone goal for the Blackbirds.

Ranked third in New York State, the Voorheesville girls’ soccer team got to the Class B sectional final for the second straight year. In a crushing loss, 4 to 1, the Birds couldn’t beat the first-ranked team, Shalmont — the same team Voorheesville last year in the semifinals.
