The town was awarded a grant to devise new zoning regulations for the commercial zone in the hamlet of New Scotland at routes 85 and 85A. A committee of residents has been appointed to work with a hired consultant.

NEW SCOTLAND — Alan Howard Coughtry was a creative craftsman known for his sense of humor. He died on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Hilo Medical Center in Hawaii. He was 65.

“He enhanced the lives of all he met,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Alan leaves friends from coast to coast, and around the world.”

Ninety-seven Voorheesville students opted out of the state English Language Arts tests this week, after the administration and school board gave a presentation on how the exams would be given.

New Scotland Kiwanis Town Wide Volunteer Day, co-sponsored by the town of New Scotland and the New Scotland Kiwanis Club, will be held on Saturday, May 2, with two shifts from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m., with a barbecue at the town hall from noon to 1 p.m. for all volunteers.
