A couple in Westerlo have created a restaurant out of a barn on their property.

BERNE — Willard J. Osterhout, a man who lived to serve his community, died on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at his Berne home surrounded by his family. He was 77.

“He was a very easygoing, friendly person,” said his daughter, Teri Osterhout. “Everybody loved him; with everybody he was generous.”

Tuesday, Nov. 28, and still no snow to bother the Old Men of the Mountain as they make their appointed rounds.

BERNE — The three founding members of the Washed Out Radio Control Club have a plan for Switzkill Farm in the town of Berne.

The couple whose house burned Saturday is planning to rebuild on the site.

BERNE — Phyllis E. Johnson — a vibrant, committed, intelligent woman — threw herself into helping others. And, for the last years of her life, the Hilltown community of Berne benefited from her work.

Robert Noel Connolly

GUILDERLAND — Robert Noel Connolly was a man of faith with a dry wit, said his wife of 31 years, Mary Lou Bartolotta-Connolly, a former longtime Albany County legislator.

Connolly died on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017. He was 84.

He was born in Albany on Aug. 21, 1933 to Bernard J. and Moira (née Whalen) Connolly.

MEDUSA — Julia “Julie” Sikule died on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, Thanksgiving Day, at her daughter’s Guilderland home, surrounded by family. She was 94. A generous and kind woman, Mrs. Sikule had moved from the city to the country unaware that she would become intricately connected to her community in Medusa.

BERNE — Bill Kelsey, a man of his word with many and deep commitments, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017. He was 74.

“From the response to his unexpected death, it’s obvious that he touched a great number of people,” his family wrote in a tribute.
