Harold Lewis Orelup

KNOX — Harold “Harry” Lewis Orelup — who  lived much of his life passionately serving others in some form of law enforcement — died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his home Knox following a long illness. He was 75.

Another Tuesday, another breakfast, and another restaurant.

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Rensselaerville Historical Society will be opening for the season on May 27, holding its annual bake sale Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

The Westerlo Town Board appointed several new town officials, including a sustainability planner to the zoning board who is guiding the town in applying for a state grant.

Knox residents will be able to help build a new playground at the town park this July.

The Albany County Planning Board determined the proposed Knox business district was incompatible with the town’s zoning and character, and suggested the comprehensive plan first be reviewed.

On Tuesday, May 8, the Old Men of the Mountain met at the Middleburgh Diner in Middleburgh.

By 44 votes, Berne’s highway superintendent, Randy Bashwinger, has won the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board race, ousting the incumbent. By a higher margin, voters also passed the district’s $23 million budget and a bus proposition.

Jennie Jablonowski Stevens

KNOX —  Jennie Jablonowski Stevens was devoted to her church and to the Stevens business but took her greatest joy from her family. She died peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was 99.

Florence V. DeNucci

KNOX — Florence V. DeNucci, who raised three children and worked on secret nuclear submarines as well as at state health-department labs, died on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Ellis Hospital, after a brief illness.
