GUILDERLAND — Crossgates Mall has two new businesses — a clothing store and a restaurant.

When the weather reporter started talking about rain during fair week, I was a little disappointed. I have worked as a ticket seller on Gate 2 for several years, and know how important it is to have good weather.

The Guilderland Senior Services is offering the following activities the week of Aug. 25. Call the senior office at 356-1980, ext. 1048 with any questions or for information.

GUILDERLAND — Summer was a time for song for selected students from Guilderland schools who participated in the New York American Choral Directors Association Elementary and Middle Honor Choirs this summer.

Katie Marcella, a 2003 graduate of Guilderland High School, has been named the new women's basketball coach at Monmouth College. She’s the 10th coach in the history of the Division III program.

 

Sixteen junior women rowers of the Albany Rowing Center (ARC) competed in the 132nd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada, with varsity rower Meghan Gutknecht, of Guilderland, winning the coveted Henley Gold in the women’s Under 19 single with a time of 8:01.421.

On Aug. 10, the Altamont community gathered to celebrate the release of the book Images of America: Altamont, published by Arcadia Publishing.  I want to express my sincere thanks to all the sponsors, noted in the photograph below, for their support for the book and for the Archives. 

MEDUSA — Described by his family as a loving father and adoring grandfather, Arthur C. Pizzigati was an Army veteran who worked as a craftsman and salesman. He died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014.

GUILDERLAND — Salvatore R. Dinovo, better known as Bob, a United States Navy veteran and long-time member of the Westmere Fire Department, died on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014. He was 78.

Mr. Dinovo was born in Albany, the son of the late August and Rose Sgarlata Dinovo. He lived in Guilderland all of his life.

ALTAMONT — Kids Care Preschool is opening its doors on Sept. 8, offering a hands-on, concept-based program for 3- to 5-year-olds; 2-year-olds are considered on an individual basis.
