Colin Wardle

ALTAMONT — Colin Wardle, a man who will be missed across three continents, died on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. He was 69.

Mr. Wardle was born on Sept. 25, 1945, in New Castle, England, the son of Arthur and Jess Wardle. He was the fourth of five siblings.

He lived most of his life in Salisbury, England, where he worked as a plasterer, builder, and developer, before retiring to Australia.

He was married to Sue Wardle for more than 30 years, and they raised three children together. Their marriage ended only with her death.

In 2004, Mr. Wardle moved to New York, and married Liz Arony Martin.

They lived in Altamont, where he was an avid golfer, and popular in the golf community, wrote his family in a tribute.

“Colin felt right at home at Briar Creek Golf Course, where he organized tee times for the lads,” said the tribute.

“Colin was a dear friend and will be missed and remembered fondly by his ‘mates’ who knew and loved him,” the tribute continued, including all of his Florida friends at Golden Lakes Village in West Palm Beach.

“Colin was a loving son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, husband, and friend, who will be missed across three continents,” the tribute concluded.

Mr. Wardle is survived by his wife, Liz Arony Martin; his two sons and their families, Ian, and his wife, Sarah, of Bristol, England, and their children, Tom and Alice, and Jonathan, and his wife, Claire, of Sydney, Australia, and their children, Miles and Eliot; his stepchildren, Jared and Amanda Martin; and his siblings, Joan, Derek, Ann, and Kevin.

His first wife, Sue Wardle, died before him, as did their son, Nicholas.

At Mr. Wardle’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Altamont Free Library, 179 Main St., Altamont, New York 12009, or the Altamont Rescue Squad, 767 Route 146, Altamont, New York 12009.
