Sam Fein

Sam Fein, Albany County legislator and congregant at B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation, will discuss how his Jewish values led him on the path to public service in a talk at the synagogue on Friday, Sept. 9, immediately following the congregation’s Shabbat service.

ALTAMONT — Thomas E. Orsini, a devoted son, father, and grandfather, was a veteran who designed Thruway bridges. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 9. He was 64.

John Charles Bielik is a teacher, a designer, an historian, and a preservationist.

He makes marbled paper — the sort of colorful patterned paper that you see in centuries-old books — the traditional way.

“It is a profession and I am a professional,” Bielik says in this week’s Enterprise podcast.

The Guilderland Planning Board on Aug. 10 approved a site plan for the United Group of Troy for 192 apartments and 30 townhomes, where the largest change compared to an early proposal from the Pyramid Companies is the shift of two five-story buildings approximately 300 feet to the north of Westmere Terrace and 150 feet from the neighborhood property line.

We urge those selecting and serving on the committee that will chart Guilderland’s future to think about what would both enhance the town’s sense of community as well as help quell climate change. The two are not unrelated.
