Asked what Democrats might be nominated to run in November for Laurel Bohl’s now-vacant seat, Jacob Crawford, who chairs both Guilderland’s and Albany County’s Democratic committee, told The Enterprise, “John Haluska, Kevin McDonald, and myself are interested candidates at this point. Paul Pastore’s name was also suggested as a possible candidate.”

GUILDERLAND — Ralph Leizer, a high school math and computer teacher, was quiet and kind, his family said. He and his wife circled the globe three times and visited every state in the United States.

He died peacefully at his Guilderland home on Sunday, July 17, 2022. He was 85.

The goal is to match existing state law, said Supervisor Peter Barber.

M.A. Schafer’s bid was significantly lower than the other two bids: MLB Construction bid $996,000 and Hoosick Valley contractors bid $1,160,000.

The next public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10.

Stanley L. Dean III

ALTAMONT — Stanley L. Dean III, a devoted father and longtime Guilderland school employee, died in his Altamont home on Monday, June 27, 2022. He was 66.

Born in Albany in 1956, he worked for the Guilderland School District for over 30 years before retiring in 2018.

Altamont beekeeper Stephen Wilson, who has spent significant time advocating for pollinator research and had been chairman of the state Commissioner of Agriculture’s Apiary Industry Advisory Committee for 12 years, lays out some of the biggest issues facing pollinators today: varroa mite infestations, insecticide use, and elimination of forage areas
