ALBANY COUNTY — Evelyn A. Kinnah says she sees herself in almost every case she works on for a noncitizen.

Kinnah, a lawyer who was born in Ghana and raised in Liberia, was appointed this week as the new director of the Albany County Immigration Assistance Center, which serves 14 counties.

The unidentified body found in Bethlehem was buried in April 1981 in Graceland Cemetery in Albany, in a pauper’s grave. Commander Adam Hornick of the Bethlehem Police has visited the man’s grave site. “It’s humbling,” he said of the experience. “With 21st-Century technology, we should be able to solve the case.”

BETHLEHEM — The Board of Directors of the Bethlehem Tomboys Girls’ Softball League unanimously voted to change its name to Bethlehem Softball League at its October meeting.

Pet-tech students learned to care for animals ranging from dogs to geckos, and criminal justice students learned handcuffing techniques as well as the more traditional techniques. 

B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation’s Fair Trade Market, Judaica Sale, and clothing drive on Sunday, Nov. 10, will help people in need.

The sales will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the synagogue at 420 Whitehall Road in Albany. The congregation will hold its semi-annual used clothing collection at the same time.

BETHLEHEM — Javier Villatoro of Delmar has been named Student of the Year by the New York Association for Continuing and Community Education.

The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy is holding its fall fundraiser, Stories from the Land, on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the New York State Museum.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of engaging conservation stories by Mark King, the conservancy’s executive director.
