ALTAMONT — This week, Wayne Knapp and Kathy Mack, a couple from Guilderland, will be strolling the grounds of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia plantation, and they will also be exploring, on foot, the nation’s capital of country music: Nashville, Tennessee.

GUILDERLAND — When Kathy Gordon moved into her Guilderland home 50 years ago, the yard was barren.

“There was nothing here but sand and weeds,” she said.

She and her husband planted a lawn, which he diligently mowed, but she is the one who filled the yard — and the house — with treasures.

ALTAMONT — A gaggle of 4-H kids tend to their goats early Tuesday morning. The gates have not officially opened for the first day of the Altamont Fair, and a steady rain falls outside, making the muddied roadways even slicker.

“I’ll pull out a frame and talk about what goes on inside,” said Tim Norray of how he plans to teach fair-goers about keeping bees.

ALTAMONT — As the Altamont Fire Department celebrates its 125th anniversary, it is looking ahead, welcoming a brand new engine — and the public — to a party at the firehouse on saturday afternoon.

The new rescue pumper — a 2018 Toyne — will arrive at the firehouse on Main Street Friday night.

Jay Cougar White Cloud lives what he believes in. His work as a Timberwright grew from his earliest childhood experiences. He now hopes to dedicate himself to restoring the Doctor Crounse House in Altamont.

GUILDERLAND — Grants galore headlined Tuesday’s town board meeting here as Republican Senator George Amedore and Democratic Councilwoman Patricia Fahy were on hand to talk about the state funds they had secured for Guilderland — for stormwater management in McKownville and for park improvements at Tawasentha.
