GUILDERLAND — Embezzlement can have far-reaching effects.

Recent cases in Guilderland illustrate this and can also serve as cautionary tales on how organizations might better protect themselves.

GUILDERLAND — Local vendors will showcase their products and services at the Guilderland Public Library on Nov. 24, in an event run by the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce to mark Small Business Saturday.

Randi Smith, former chief fiscal officer of the New York State Weatherization Directors Association, is headed to prison, as is her son, for stealing from the organization.

The Empire State Youth Orchestra has a new musical director. It also has roots in and ongoing connections to Guilderland.

The change will allow families more time for celebrating, say school district officials.

GUILDERLAND — The town is ending its relationship with Mallozzi’s, the long-time food-and-beverage vendor at the town-owned Western Turnpike Golf Course.

Guilderland Supervisor Peter Barber told the town board on Nov. 8 that the goal is to have a new vendor in place by the start of the next golf season.

GUILDERLAND — The citizens’ group Historic Altamont Inc. wrote a letter this week to Guilderland Supervisor Peter Barber and Altamont Mayor Kerry Dineen advising them that it would no longer seek ownership of the historic Doctor Crounse House, at the gateway to the village.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland school board is considering its next steps, following a failed capital-construction project referendum on Oct. 16.
