The century-old college, facing financial hardship, closed in the summer of 2024. The Pine Hills Land Authority, backed by Albany County, then won the bid to buy the 48-acre campus for $35 million.

“Yeah, it’s a place where families who are homeschooled can come bring their kids just to have open play games, projects,” project applicant Katie Coffey told Planning Board Chairman Stephen Feeney.

The new proposal shifts focus from procedural details to a broader framework that emphasizes equity, communication, and student growth.

“We’d be remiss,” Helen Lounsbury said, “if we didn’t give this group — old and new — a big round of applause.” The crowd obliged.

The bill needs to be signed into law by Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy, which is likely since in October he signed an executive order setting 21 as the minimum age to buy a flare gun in Albany County, the same age stipulated by the bill.

The village tax increase came amid an audit by the Office of State Comptroller.

The audit found employees used work computers for personal matters, the town hadn’t disabled accounts for workers who had left, and a contingency plan needs regular testing as well as adoption by the town board.

On Dec. 2, the Guilderland Town Board, after hearing no comments on the demolition at a public hearing, voted unanimously to authorize the destruction of the burned building.

The mall’s parent company, Pyramid Management Group, announced in November that it had secured new financing totaling more than $200 million for Crossgates Mall in Guilderland and Crossgates Commons in the city of Albany.

“It’s a 70-30 grant,” Dineen said, meaning the village is on the hook for 30 percent of the project’s cost.

“No person or entity shall sell, offer for sale, apply, offer to use biosolids or compost derived from wastewater treatment for residential, agricultural, or commercial purposes and land in the Town,” the law says. For a violation, it implements a fine of not more than $2,000 per day.

In his overview of Guilderland’s athletic programs, Austin was accommodating about the bottom line: While he advocates to meet the needs of burgeoning teams, he said, he understands budget constraints don’t always make his requests obtainable.

GUILDERLAND — In the summer of 2024, three men smashed the front window of an upscale boutique in Stuyvesant Plaza, Lola Saratoga, stealing merchandise; one of those suspects has now been arraigned, according to a Dec.

Since Albany County is no longer helping school districts with elections, Guilderland plans to consolidate from five polling places to three.

A winter storm watch will be in effect for most of eastern New York and western New England from 7 a.m. Tuesday until 1 a.m. Wednesday.
