The Guilderland baseball and softball teams along with Voorheesville baseball took to their respective diamonds to battle for sectional titles this past week with mixed results.

The track-and-field athletes of Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Guilderland ran, jumped, and threw in hopes of winning sectional titles and also making it to the State Qualifiers on May 30 and 31 at Shenendehowa.

The second season for Voorheesville and Guilderland lacrosse teams started last week — and ended this week.

The athletes on Guilderland’s Unified Sports basketball team play with heart and love of the game. The Dutch traveled to Bethlehem on Monday and beat the Eagles, 49 to 46.

The Guilderland Dutchmen lacrosse team is driving toward the finish of the regular season, aiming to be in a good position for a deep run in the sectionals. The Dutch traveled to Averill Park to take on the Warriors on their Senior Night.

A quick shower passed through Voorheesville during the Blackbirds’ only home meet of the season; other planned meets had been nixed due to weather. Tuesday was Senior Night, as the Blackbirds faced off against Ichabod Crane and Watervliet.

After starting well, the young Dutch baseball team has seen the season go up and down since then. On Monday afternoon, Guilderland traveled to Saratoga to play a key Suburban Council game. The game went back and forth but the Dutch couldn’t hold on to a one-run lead and fell, 6 to 5.

On a windy day at Guilderland High School Tuesday, the girls’ track-and-field team took on Ballston Spa while the boys took on Ballston Spa and Christian Brothers Academy.

As the season winds down toward sectional play, every game becomes critical. The Voorheesville Blackbirds and the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs both improved their standings this past week.
