ALBANY COUNTY — Mark S. Schmidt of Altamont was sentenced in Albany County Court on Thursday to two-and-a-half years in prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision; upon release, he will have to register as a sex offender.

Police say the woman Franklin Hempstead attacked said she was thrown to the ground after he tried to argue with her.

ALBANY COUNTY — Although millions of dollars are spent every year by taxpayers through their fire districts in the western half of Albany County, just hundreds of the tens-of-thousands of the eligible voters turned out for the commissioner elections on Tuesday.

The Knox Zoning Board of Appeals will weigh in on the interpretation of a town law on home businesses after the planning board members could not come to an agreement on whether home businesses are subject to similar zoning restrictions as their business counterparts.

GUILDERLAND — Town officials will hold a presentation, at three different locations, on the upcoming town-wide revaluation and will answer any questions from residents:

— Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Fort Hunter firehouse, 2525 Carman Road from 7 to 8:30 p.m.;

ALTAMONT — On Wednesday night, after a packed hearing with more than 100 villagers, the Altamont Village Board voted, 3 to 2, to rezone the two-family home at 107-109 Helderberg Ave. from residential to commercial so that the adjacent Stewart’s Shop will be able to expand.

Republicans have introduced a series of resolutions that would monitor the hours town employees work and offer further review of town finances.

The deputy commissioner is alleged to have kept all-terrain vehicles and trailers at the county’s Department Of Public Works building in Voorheesville.

Officials are not sure of the extent of contamination, or if the streams behind the property run to the Watervliet Reservoir, but they are proceeding as if the streams do enter the reservoir, said Rick Georgeson, spokesman for the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation’s Region 4.
