The winter season for the Bulldogs, Blackbirds, and Dutchmen was hot on the court, on the mat, on the track, and in the pool. Some teams made it all the way to the state competition and some showed heart and determination in efforts to get to states.

On a cold and blustery Saturday, the seventh annual Sap Run 5K in Knox kicked off the two-weekend Maple Festival. The race was delayed about 10 minutes after a dog bit one of the runners warming up before the race. After that, 79 runners took to the streets.

The magical run for the Voorheesville girls’ basketball team came to an end Saturday in a heart-pounding game.

The Guilderland Dutchmen bowling team, after winning back-to-back sectional titles, traveled to Syracuse on Sunday morning for the state competition. The six athletes bowled six games as a five-person team, participated in the boys’ Division 1.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds boys’ volleyball team has been clicking on all cylinders since last year, 20-0. This year’s team was undefeated as well and riding a 38-match winning streak coming into the Class C/D Regional Finals at Chittenango High School on Saturday.

The Guilderville boys’ swim team sent one relay team and three swimmers to the state competition at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Westbury on Long Island this past weekend.

The Guilderland cheer squad was the only one of five Section 2 teams to make it to the final round at the state championships in Syracuse Saturday where 52 schools competed.

After three upset victories in a row, the Voorheesville girls’ basketball team won its sectional championship on Saturday. Seeded sixth in Class B, the Voorheesville Blackbirds beat the top-seeded Tamarac Bengals in the championship game, 51 to 46, at Hudson Valley Community College.

Two Voorheesville teams are inching toward sectional championships — the boys’ volleyball and the girls’ basketball teams.
