On a cold and blustery Saturday, the seventh annual Sap Run 5K in Knox kicked off the two-weekend Maple Festival. The race was delayed about 10 minutes after a dog bit one of the runners warming up before the race. After that, 79 runners took to the streets.

Once the race started, Holden Maynard (406), Meg Versteegen (5493) and Daron Lasher (411) along with the other runners make the first turn onto Knox Cave Road. Maynard won with a time of 18:39; Versteegen came in second and was the first female finisher with a time of 20:18, and Lasher came in third at 20:25.

While some of the racers wore shorts and tank tops, these runners wore masks to keep the cold wind from chapping their faces. Many runners wore green for the St. Patrick’s Day race.
