End-of-season action

After three upset victories in a row, the Voorheesville girls’ basketball team won its sectional championship on Saturday. Seeded sixth in Class B, the Voorheesville Blackbirds beat the top-seeded Tamarac Bengals in the championship game, 51 to 46, at Hudson Valley Community College. Emily Burke and Rebecca Clair led the Blackbirds with 16 points each. The Blackbirds will play Saturday at HVCC at 1:30 p.m. against the Section 7/10 winner.

In state competitions, Guilderland junior Isabella Bruno competed last weekend in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump down at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Center on Staten Island. She finished fourth in triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 6 inches; 10th in high jump with a height of 5 feet, 3 inches; and 11th in long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Also competing at the state level were four Dutchmen gymnasts at Cold Springs Harbor High School, also on Long Island. Rachel Drislane led the Dutch in the all-around by finishing in 22nd in the state with a total of 33.675 points. Shea Thomson, Allison Rem, and Madalyn Altieri competed on the balance beam and floor. Thomson finished 33rd on the beam with a 8.000, and 18th on the floor with 8.950. Rem finished 35th on beam with 7.900, and 23rd on the floor with 8.800. Altieri finished in 36th on beam with 7.850 and 31st on floor with 8.200.
