On the opening day of the Altamont Fair, 27 young women, ages 5-40, compete in the Miss Altamont Fair pageant for the fair week and other community events through out the year.

GUILDERLAND — Kelly Stang of Guilderland, the New York State Department of Conservation wildlife biologist who launched and ran a state program introducing thousands of women and girls over the years to outdoor adventures, was promoted last month to oversee the DEC’s hunter-education program.

The Guilderland Letterman Golf Classic was held last Friday at Orchard Creek Golf Course for their annual fundraiser.

It was the 9th Annual National Night Out put on by the Guilderland Police Department as they hosted the event, at Tawasentha Park on Tuesday evening, in efforts to bring the community together.

Every Sunday starting in August that goes through September, a farmers market will be held being Star Plaza in Guilderland from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Last week, Crossgates Mall held a job fair to start hiring new people for the Crossgates’ new hotel, the dual-branded Tru and Homewood Suites by Hilton, opening this fall.

GUILDERLAND — Joe and Joan Clemens fell in love after World War II, married in 1948, and will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary at a vow renewal ceremony on Aug. 15 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Guilderland where they live.

GUILDERLAND — The town of Guilderland was the only municipality in the Capital Region to make it onto an annual list, produced by a home-security company, of “50 Safest Cities in New York Report.”

Visitors to the 2018 Altamont Fair will pay a couple of dollars more for admission, but some new attractions may help ease the sting.

ALTAMONT — They compete to see who can make cuts with a chainsaw the fastest. They measure the accuracy of axes they hurl at targets 20 feet away. And they swing axes down between their feet, to split the thick logs they are standing on.
