Altamont resident Darlene Stanton got sworn in on Saturday June 9 at the Marriott Hotel in Colonie to become the new Department of New York president.

Varsity teams from Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo showed the state and Section 2 competition their mettle when the temperatures went up this spring — that is, once the snow melted.

Guilderland’s Isabella Bruno and Noah Tindale competed against top athletes from across New York for the State Championship held at Cicero-North Syracuse in Cicero on Friday. The Federation competition followed on Saturday with Bruno winning the championship for the triple jump.

ALTAMONT — Edward V. Hanrahan was a master carpenter and a man of few words who taught his seven children by showing, rather than telling, them how to build.

He died on Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was 91.

GUILDERLAND — Pattie Moore Gray, a Christian woman who helped in her husband’s ministry and who shared her love of nature with her children, died Thursday, June 7, 2018. She was 95.

ALTAMONT – A few years ago, Bernard Melewski held a fundraiser at his home on Black Creek Farm, and a friend of his, John Sheehan, showed up with some wine.

“The short story is: My winemaking friend said, ‘You have a farm and now farm wineries are legal in New York, what do you think about collaborating?’” Melewski said.

While black bears, like one that visited a Guilderland yard Monday morning, can alarm suburban residents, a new program is looking for citizen scientists to gather information on bears.

ALTAMONT – Victor H. Lown, “was a man of many things,” his family wrote in a tribute: a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather –“Poppy Vic,” as he was known to his grandchildren. He died on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. He was 86.

GUILDERLAND — Pattie Moore Gray, a Christian woman who helped in her husband’s ministry and who shared her love of nature with her children, died Thursday, June 7, 2018. She was 95.

Brennan McNeil, 26, of Albany, was sentenced on Monday to 210 months in prison for sexually exploiting a child for the purpose of producing child pornography, according to a release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
